‘Differences between Gautam Gambhir and Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar’, this former Indian cricketer’s claim created a stir

Former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik believes that there may be differences between head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar. He says that due to different priorities, India’s selection decisions may have been affected during the recent T20I tour of UK.

India’s performance under the captaincy of captain Shreyas Iyer was disappointing. The team lost the two-match series against Ireland 0-2 and then faced a 0-4 defeat in the five-match T20I series against England. Due to this performance, questions are being raised on Gambhir. Also, there is a lot of discussion on the way Sanju Samson and young sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi were included and dropped from the team.

Speaking on Sky Sports Cricket Podcast, Dinesh Karthik said that due to the continuous changes, it seems that there may be a lack of coordination between the team management and the selection committee. Karthik said, “There is a slight rift between the chief selector and the head coach. I think Agarkar has long-term plans, whereas the current coach says, ‘I want to win every match.’ This is why we are seeing this confusion. Is it right for the players? Absolutely not.”

He also said that having such a large number of players in the Indian team increases the pressure on those players who are trying to cement their place in the team. He further said, “I mean, if you are from India, then imagine how strong a bench strength you have? Everyone thinks that if I have some bad matches then anyone can take my place. On top of that, when such things happen, it definitely becomes a situation that India should be aware of and should fix as soon as possible.”
