Jairam Ramesh On SC Verdict: The Supreme Court on Thursday (May 11) gave its verdict in the case of disqualification of 16 Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) MLAs. The court refused to restore the status quo, saying that Uddhav Thackeray had resigned before proving his majority, so the status quo cannot be restored. Now the reaction has also come from the Congress side on this matter.
Congress Rajya Sabha MP Jairam Ramesh tweeted, “Today, in connection with the toppling of Uddhav Thackeray and the MVA government in Maharashtra, the Supreme Court said that – what the governor did first was illegal. The decisions of the second speaker were also illegal. Appointing the third whip.” Also illegal. Case sent to the bench of seven judges
The court further noted that since Uddhav Thackeray had resigned without facing a trust vote, the Governor was right in inviting Shinde to form the government at the behest of the Bharatiya Janata Party, the largest party in the House. The court also said that the Speaker’s decision to appoint Shinde faction’s Bharat Gogawale as Shiv Sena’s whip was illegal. The court has sent the matter to the bench of seven judges.
