mobile tracking system
CEIR Technology: The Department of Telecom has launched the Sanchar Saathi portal on Tuesday. Through this people can now track their lost or stolen mobile phones across India. The phone can also be blocked from this portal. Union Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that through the Sanchar Saathi portal, people will be able to check the authenticity of old equipment before buying it. Vaishnav said that the first phase of Sanchar Saathi portal is CEIR (Central Equipment Identity Register). If you lose your mobile phone, you can visit this portal. Some identity verification has to be done and soon after that the portal will contact the law enforcement agencies and the telecom company. Your lost phone will be blocked.
This technology will work instantly
He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision is to pay a lot of attention to user security and the Sanchar Saathi portal is a step in this direction. Asked about checking cases of fraud through calls on WhatsApp, the minister said the Meta-owned app has agreed to deactivate services linked to any mobile phone number involved in the fraud. He said that 36 lakh mobile connections have been disconnected due to fraud and also their WhatsApp accounts have been blocked.
IMEI numbers will stop the use of stolen mobiles
Government has made it mandatory to disclose International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI-15 digit number) before sale of mobile devices in India. Mobile networks will have a list of approved IMEI numbers to track the entry of stolen mobile phones into their networks. Telecom operators and the CEIR system will have access to the IMEI number of the device and the mobile number associated with it. In some states, this information will be used through CEIR to trace lost or stolen mobile phones.
