The committee said in the report that SEBI’s investigation is going on on all these issues, so the committee is not giving any opinion on their merit at present. The panel said that it is not possible to conclude at this juncture on the failure of the regulator SEBI as SEBI has an active and working surveillance framework to take cognizance of the high volatility in the prices of shares which detects whether the stock price There has been no manipulation in the price.

The panel has said in its report that till January 24, 2023, a total of 33 lakh investors, including retail investors and high net worth investors, were invested in the stocks of Adani Group, whose investment value was Rs 57500 crore. But the value of shares of these shareholders fell by 51 per cent between January 24 and February 27, 2023, and investors’ investments took a dent of Rs 29,200 crore. However, later, after a slight recovery in the shares of the group, the loss to retail investors and HNIs came down to 38 per cent or Rs 21,850 crore.

The Supreme Court panel said in its report that according to SEBI, the retail investor has suffered a loss of Rs 3700 crore due to the fall in Adani Group’s stocks. At the same time, high net worth investors have suffered a loss of Rs 22,000 crore. After the Hindenburg report came out, the market cap of Adani group decreased by Rs 12.4 lakh crore till 27 February, which was Rs 10 lakh crore on 9 March.
