Accused of assault on the alleged BJP leader of Jammu and Kashmir, the opposition said – will kill someday

Jammu-Kashmir: Jammu and Kashmir Police has registered a case against a BJP leader for attacking two persons in Srinagar. Police say that the accused Ejaz Hussain Rather is a member of the District Development Council and also a member of the Central Haj Committee. And one of the victims is a close aide of Srinagar Mayor Junaid Mattoo.

According to the Jammu and Kashmir Police, a case has been registered against Ejaz Hussain on charges of wrongful restraint and causing hurt after receiving a complaint from a person alleging assault and harassment in Srinagar. The matter came to light when Srinagar Mayor Junaid Mattu tweeted pictures of the attack, demanding police action against the accused BJP leader.

Will someday kill an innocent civilian – complainant

Junaid tweeted, the present DDC member belonging to BJP has spread the reign of terror on the people of Srinagar. This is the second attack by them on a civilian in less than a month. Even women are being attacked now. Junaid further tweeted, “Really- what a sad situation. What anarchy. This is the second such incident of this man. He will kill an innocent civilian someday. It’s just a matter of time. Balhama’s full the village grapples with its terror

Police booked DDC member Ejaz Hussain Rather under sections 323 and 341 of IPC following tweets and protests by family members in Srinagar. Two victims, Nazim Hussain Bhat and Imad Ali Mir, filed a complaint against the DDC member. Both the victims are members of their own party, of which Junaid Mattu is a senior leader.

Ejaz Rather also took to Twitter to respond to the Mayor’s allegation and termed the entire incident of assault a “drama” at the behest of Mayor Junaid Mattu. Ejaz accused both the victims as well as the Mayor of being part of the land mafia that has grabbed the lands of Kashmiri Pandits. Ejaz tweeted, “Mr Mattu I did not know that you are also a part of the land mafia. The pretenders are actually the land mafia who have grabbed Pandit property and state land.

Ejaz Ahmad Rather came to the political front in early 2012 and was later appointed as the National Vice President of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM). He is very close to the top BJP leaders. Ejaz was nominated as a member of the Haj Committee of India in April 2022.
