Arjun Ram Meghwal on Sedition Law: Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal has welcomed the Law Commission’s report on sedition law. He tweeted on Friday (June 2) that a final decision would be taken only after deliberations on the recommendations made in the Law Commission’s report on sedition. He said that now that the report has been received by the government, it is time to discuss with all the stakeholders. Will take decision in public interest.

At the same time, Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi said on the report of the Law Commission that the recommendations of the commission on sedition cases would increase the ruckus in the country. What is the whole matter?

In fact, the Law Commission had submitted a report on the sedition law to the Center on Thursday (June 1). It has been said in this that this law should be retained with some changes. Its cancellation can affect the integrity and security of the country. Section 124A should be retained with some safeguards to prevent its misuse. In his covering letter to Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, 22nd Law Commission Chairman Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi (retd) has also given some suggestions.

The Supreme Court had postponed the sedition law in the year 2022, in the month of May. Then the court had asked the state governments not to continue the investigation in all the pending proceedings under this provision until the investigation regarding this law is completed by the central government.
