Bodhghat Dam Project in Bastar: In Chhattisgarh, the Bodhghat project (dam), included in the manifesto of the Congress and one of the dream projects of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, has now come to a complete halt, following protests by the affected farmers. There was talk of restarting this project only after the consent of the farmers, but now Bastar MP Deepak Baij, giving a statement regarding the Bodhghat dam project, has said to stop this project completely.
‘The situation of displacement of tribals was created due to the dam’
Deepak Baij said that due to the Bodhghat project, the situation of displacement of tribals was being created and many villages were being included in the Duban area, now deciding not to evict the villagers from their land, this project should be completely implemented. has been discontinued. However, as an alternative, now planning is being done to build Matnar barrage (dam) below Chitrakote waterfall of Indravati river and DPR has also been prepared for this. Through this Matnar barrage, not only will water be available to the farmers for 12 months of the year, but through the barrage, water will be supplied to the farmers for irrigation in many villages of Dantewada and Bastar districts. Not only this, along with developing this place as a tourist destination, fish farming and electricity generation will also be done here if needed. Deepak Baij told that the work on this Rs 700 crore project will be started after getting the approval of the state government, Deepak Baij said that there will be no need to displace the villagers for this project. On the other hand, the residents of Bastar will get relief from the water problem.
Matnar barrage will be made as an alternative
In fact, a dam was to be built under the Bodhghat project at Launhadiguda in Bastar district at a cost of thousands of crores, but after the announcement of the Chief Minister, the affected farmers of the area started opposing this project continuously. Several rounds of meetings also went on, but the farmers did not agree and remained adamant not to give their land for this project. At the same time, forest clearance was also not received due to the submergence of many villages and green forests from this dam. Along with this, apart from the local public representatives of the Congress, former Union Minister and senior Congress leader Arvind Netam was also against the Bodhghat project, due to continuous protests and protests against the eviction of a large number of villagers from their land and displacement to a new place. Due to this, the Chief Minister, during his stay in Bastar district, had talked about starting the Bodhghat project only after the consent of the farmers and now Bastar MP Deepak Baij has informed about the complete closure of the Bodhghat dam project. MP Deepak Baij says that the representatives of Bastar as well as the Congress are concerned about the drying up of the Indravati river, so the Bodhghat project was started with the aim of providing water for the residents of Bastar through the dam and for irrigation to the farmers. But after closing it, Matnar barrage will be prepared as an alternative, although approval has not been received from the state government yet.
The MP said that in this project of 700 crores, barrage (dam) will be prepared in Matnar below Chitrakote waterfall so that along with getting sufficient water for irrigation, the farmers of Dantewada, Kondagaon and Launhdiguda of Bastar district and other areas will get food for the year. To get rid of the water problem for 12 months. The MP told that there will be no need for displacement of the villagers in this project, as well as doing rural fish farming in this dam, electricity can also be generated here if needed. With the construction of this dam, there will be no need for the Bodhghat project, as well as the farmers and villagers here will get relief from the water problem.
