Punjab News: Chief Minister of Punjab Bhagwant Mann has objected to giving BBMB water to Himachal. He has protested against the decision of the Center on waiving the condition of seeking NOC by Himachal to take water for irrigation schemes. ‘Himachal can’t claim river water’
CM Mann said that the water of Sutlej, Ravi and Beas rivers has been given to Punjab, Haryana, Jammu-Kashmir, Delhi and Rajasthan under different agreements. And this fixed water is supplied through a special canal system. But Himachal cannot lay any claim on this water. He said that according to Entry 17 of State List-II of the Constitution, water is a state subject.
need to reverse the decision
CM Mann said that the central government has included irrigation schemes by giving immediate instructions. But at present the water in the rivers is decreasing every year and water is being demanded by everyone. In such a situation, the participating states should reconsider the unilateral decision of the Center and withdraw the decision. CM Mann termed the Centre’s decision as completely unfair, baseless and gross injustice to Punjab.
