Adipurush Movie Controversy: The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on Wednesday reprimanded the filmmakers of the controversial Bollywood film ‘Adipurush’, saying it depicted characters from Ramayana in a ‘very shameful manner’.
Hearing petitions seeking a ban on ‘Adipurush’, the Lucknow bench of the High Court on Wednesday said why controversial films are made on Ramayana, Quran or Bible, which hurt the religious sentiments of people. A bench of Justice Rajesh Singh Chauhan and Justice Shri Prakash Singh heard the matter.
Hindu tolerance
The vacation bench said, “Suppose, a short documentary was made on Quran. Can you imagine how that would have created a serious law and order problem? But it is because of the tolerance of Hindus that things do not turn ugly even after the ghastly blunders of the filmmakers.” The bench said, “In one film, Lord Shankar is shown running with a trident. Now Lord Ram and other characters of Ramayana have been shown in a very shameful manner. Shouldn’t this stop?
Earlier during the hearing on Tuesday, the court had expressed serious concern. The court had said, “Hindus are tolerant but why are they tested every time?” Ramayana is not.
The bench had said, “The way the film has been made, it will not only hurt the sentiments of people who worship Lord Ram, Goddess Sita, Lord Hanuman etc. It can also create disharmony in the society.
