Many people follow the rules of Vaastu while constructing a house. So that prosperity remains, there is no lack of happiness and prosperity. There is no crisis. There is also importance of keeping the idol of Naag-Nagin before constructing the house.

In the fifth chapter of Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapuran, it is described that there is Patal Lok (underworld) under the earth and the lord of Patal Lok is Sheshnag. Therefore, during Bhoomi Pujan, a silver Naag (snake) is kept so that Sheshnag always protects the property and the house. Naag is also considered to be the protector of wealth.

It is said that if a silver snake and a female snake are placed in the foundation of the house, then it signifies change because just like a snake sheds its skin and takes on a new form, similarly if your house is being built at a place where there was a house earlier, then the pair of a male snake helps in forgetting the old memories and moving out of there.

In the 29th verse of the 10th chapter of Shrimad Bhagwat, Lord Krishna has said – Anantaschasmi Naganaam i.e. I am Sheshnag among the snakes. This is the reason why a pair of silver snakes is placed in the foundation of the house so that God resides in the house and negative forces are never able to enter.

Silver is considered a symbol of purity. It is said that keeping a silver serpent in the foundation of the house helps in maintaining peace and purity in the house.

According to Vastu Shastra, the pair of snake and serpent also helps in getting rid of Vastu defects. Negativity of the house is removed.
