Jharkhand News: Jharkhand’s Special PMLA Court has rejected the bail plea of ââformer minister and Congress leader Alamgir Alam. He is accused of taking commission in the tender of Rural Development Department. He was arrested by ED.
Alamgir resigned from the post in June and wrote in his resignation that “I am resigning from the post of minister of the state cabinet. I will be grateful for the opportunity given to me to work as a colleague in the cabinet.” Before resigning, all his departments were taken back by the state government. He was also looking after the responsibility of the Parliamentary Affairs Department.

Alamgir Alam was arrested by ED on 15 May. Before the arrest, raids were conducted at the residences of Alamgir’s personal secretary Sanjeev Lala and domestic help Jahangir Alam and several crores of rupees were recovered. It was said about Sanjeev that he used to collect money. Before the arrest, Alamgir was questioned by ED for two consecutive days. This questioning lasted for 14 hours.
Claims to have received Rs 1.5 crore as commission
In May, the ED had told the court that an organized gang was involved in the tender commission case in the Rural Development Department. This gang included Alamgir Alam, engineers and other officials. It was claimed that Rs 1.23 crore was taken as commission on 25 tenders. The ED also claimed that the then Chief Engineer of 2023, Virendra Kumar Ram, used to take commission for tenders. Out of this, an amount of Rs 1.5 crore was given to Alamgir Alam.
Alamgir Alam’s arrest came at a time when CM Hemant Soren was arrested in January in a money laundering case related to the land scam. However, Hemant Soren got bail in June.
