Can polio cases increase in India like before? Know how it is prevented

The disease can also be caused by weak immunity and family history of polio. Even after the government confirmed the case from the Meghalaya incident, there is still no official report that it is vaccine-derived and not caused by the wild poliovirus.

With the global eradication of wild poliovirus (WPV) type 2 in 2015 and WPV type 3 in 2019 and no WPV type 3 detected in environmental samples in India for years, it is highly unlikely that this is due to WPV type 1 unless it was imported into India. As of August 13, Afghanistan and Pakistan have reported 14 WPV type 1 cases this year. If it is vaccine derived, again there is no official confirmation whether it is iVDPV or the circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus (cVDPV).
