US on Pakistan ISI: Former US National Security Adviser Lieutenant General (Retired) HR McMaster said that there is no doubt that Pakistan’s intelligence agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) is in collusion with terrorist groups. McMaster revealed that during his tenure under former President Donald Trump, the White House had to face opposition from the State Department and the Pentagon over providing security assistance to Islamabad.
Donald Trump was strict
Former US National Security Adviser McMaster said that Donald Trump had ordered to stop all aid to Pakistan until it stops providing safe haven to terrorists. However, even then Defense Secretary Jim Mattis was planning to give Islamabad a military aid package which included armored vehicles worth more than $150 million.
McMaster made these comments in the book A War With Ourselves: My Tour of Duty in the Trump White House. He said, however, that this aid was stopped after his intervention.
Trump refused to give money to Pakistan
McMaster said, “Then President Donald Trump had clearly stated on several occasions that aid to Pakistan should be suspended until it stops helping terrorist organizations that are killing Afghan, American and coalition military members in Afghanistan… We all heard Trump say, “I don’t want any more money given to Pakistan anymore.”
“Pakistan was not changing its stance. Its government had released Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks, on the eve of Mattis’ visit, which was nothing short of a humiliation. Subsequently, a hostage incident in Pakistan revealed the undisputed complicity of Pakistan’s intelligence agency with the terrorists,” McMaster wrote.
