Telangana-Andhra Pradesh Rain: Heavy rains lashed Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for the second consecutive day, due to which 15 people have died in Andhra Pradesh and 9 in Telangana till the evening of Sunday, 1 September. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister amit shah has spoken to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.
The central government has assured both the states of all possible help to deal with the rain and floods.

26 NDRF teams deployed
26 teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are being deployed for flood relief and rescue operations in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. According to officials, 12 teams are already deployed in both the states. Apart from this, 14 teams have been sent there. These teams are reaching there from different places across the country. According to NDRF officials, the rescue teams deployed in both the neighbouring states are equipped with different equipment.

Rivers in spate, many trains cancelled
An official of South Central Railway (SCR) said that due to heavy rains and waterlogging on tracks at many places, 99 trains have been cancelled and four trains have been partially cancelled. While the route of 54 trains has been changed. Rivers are in spate in both states and the National and State Disaster Response Forces have evacuated thousands of people from flood-hit areas and shifted them to relief camps.
Telangana Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said that timely precautionary measures have reduced loss of life and property. He said that despite these measures, nine people lost their lives in different rain-related incidents in different parts of the state. Three people are also feared to have been swept away in Mahabubabad and Khammam districts. The minister said that in other districts like Suryapet, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mahabubabad and Khammam, the authorities have evacuated residents of several flood-affected villages to safer places.
Telangana CM’s emergency meeting
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy held an emergency review meeting. Hyderabad also received heavy rains and several parts of the city were waterlogged due to overnight downpour. Officials said that due to more heavy rains in Hyderabad district, a holiday has been declared for all schools on September 2.
District Magistrates have been asked to declare holiday in educational institutions on September 2 as per local conditions. The Meteorological Department has predicted very heavy to extremely heavy rains at isolated places in Adilabad, Nizamabad, Rajanna Sircilla, Yadadri Bhuvangiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Kamareddy and Mahbubnagar districts of Telangana till 8.30 am on Sunday, September 2. A ‘red alert’ has been issued for this forecast.

Heavy rain warning issued in Andhra Pradesh too
There is a possibility of rain in many places in Andhra Pradesh and heavy rainfall may also occur at some places. Heavy rains are likely in parts of Srikakulam, Vijayanagaram, Parvatipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitarama Raju, Kakinada and Nandyal districts, an official release said.
Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority Managing Director R. Kurmandha alerted people living in low-lying areas and said a level 1 warning has been issued at Prakasam barrage in Vijayawada due to the overflowing of Krishna river, causing heavy water flow.
CM Chandrababu Naidu addressed the public
Addressing a press conference at the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) in Tadepalli, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said the state has received heavy rains. Naidu said, ‘Due to heavy rains, Vijayawada and Guntur cities are completely submerged. The Vijayawada-Guntur National Highway at Kaza and the Vijayawada-Hyderabad National Highway at Jaggaiyapeta are completely submerged.’
According to the Chief Minister, Jaggayyapeta received 26 cm of rain in 24 hours, while 14 mandals recorded more than 20 cm of rain. In Rajarajeswari Peta of the city, people were seen wading through chest-deep water on a submerged road. He said 94 other places in 14 districts received rainfall between seven to 12 cm.
According to the Chief Minister, the flood water which was supposed to be diverted towards Kolleru lake was turning towards Vijayawada and resulting in flooding in the city. Speaking about the steps being taken to deal with the rain-related problems, Naidu said, “We are increasing the security in the downstream areas of Prakasam barrage with sand bags and other means and have also alerted the district collectors.”
‘More than 1.1 lakh hectares of agricultural area, 7,360 hectares of horticultural area damaged’
The chief minister said 17,000 people affected by the rains have been shifted to 107 relief camps, while over 1.1 lakh hectares of agriculture land and 7,360 hectares of horticulture land have been damaged. Naidu said that arrangements for food are being made for the people in the rehabilitation centres.
Earlier, Union Minister of State for Home, Bandi Sanjay Kumar said that following the order of the Home Minister, nine NDRF teams, three each from Chennai, Visakhapatnam and Assam, have been sent to Telangana.
