Iran Pakistan Gas Pipeline Issue: Pakistan is facing many problems these days. On one hand, people have come out on the streets due to the economic crisis, while on the other hand, Iran has warned Pakistan. Regarding the delay in the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project, Iran has given a final warning to Pakistan to complete its part of the gas pipeline on the border, otherwise it may have to pay a fine of billions of dollars along with the risk of international arbitration.
The deal was done between Iran and Pakistan in 2010
America has imposed sanctions on Iran for a long time, which has affected this deal. The deal for this project was signed between Iran and Pakistan in 2010, under which it was decided that Iran would supply 75 to 100 crore feet of natural gas to Pakistan every day. The deadline for laying the pipeline for this was set as 2014. This deal between the two countries was for 25 years.
Iran has said that it has invested $2 billion in the construction of the 1,150 kilometer long section of the pipeline, which was inaugurated in 2013. The current situation has become like a rock bottom for Pakistan. This is because Pakistan wants to avoid the displeasure of America on the issue of doing business with Iran and it is also looking for a way to avoid paying a heavy fine in the international court. If Pakistan has to pay the fine, its condition will go from bad to worse.
America increased the tension of Pakistan
On the other hand, America is firm on its decision. US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said that they will continue the sanctions imposed on Iran. According to the Tribune report, Miller said, “We advise anyone considering a trade deal with Iran to be aware of the potential consequences of those deals.”
