‘Ticket on merit…’, as soon as Vinesh became a Congressman, there was a ruckus outside the AICC office! Vehicles were stopped in protest

Haryana Elections 2024: After wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia joined the Congress on Friday (September 7, 2024), there was a lot of uproar outside the All India Congress Committee (AICC) office. After both of them were given Congress membership, a press conference (PC) was held in the party office, after which some people reached there and started protesting by stopping vehicles. Their demand was that the ticket should be given on the basis of merit. Due to the protest, many party leaders and both the wrestlers were stuck in the office for some time.

According to the report of English newspaper ‘The Indian Express’, a group of people from Haryana’s Barwala constituency had come to protest outside the AICC office regarding the selection of Congress candidate from Julana. They were demanding distribution of tickets on the basis of merit. The protesters even stopped the vehicles of Congress leaders, after which security personnel had to be called to take all the leaders out. The protesters were described as farmers and they said that they would not give tickets to any corrupt person. They had come to request Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge for this.

Commotion for Vinesh Phogat-Bajrang Punia?

The protest, which started when Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia joined the Congress, seemed like a protest against the wrestlers. However, the matter was something else. In fact, the protesting farmers were angry over the ticket distribution in Barwala constituency of Hisar in Haryana. The protesting farmer leader claimed, “We have come here from Hisar Haryana. We have come to know that Congress is going to give ticket (for the assembly elections) to a corrupt person. All of us farmer leaders have come here to request Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and Deepak Babaria.”
