‘Who can stop God?’, Mahua took a dig at retired judges who attended VHP’s program

Mahua Moitra On VHP: Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra on Wednesday (September 11) targeted former Supreme Court Justice Hemant Gupta for attending an event organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP).

In October 2022, retired Supreme Court Justice Hemant Gupta defended his presence at the September 8 event, saying he attended the event as a “citizen of India” to discuss current issues, Hindustan Times reported.

“As far as retired judges participating in such events after retirement is concerned, I cannot comment about others but I have the freedom to join forums and platforms to discuss and deliberate on current issues and topics like any other citizen of the country,” Justice Gupta was quoted as saying by The Quint.

TMC MP took a jibe at retired judges for attending VHP’s program

In a post on social media platform ‘X’, TMC MP Mahua Moitra said, “Of course mylords – you have the freedom to attend any event! Take charge after retirement, be a nominated member of the Rajya Sabha – who can stop God from doing anything? Who are we – mere humans – to question you?”

30 retired judges of SC and HC participated in VHP’s program

According to PTI, about 30 retired judges of the Supreme Court and various High Courts reportedly attended the VHP event held at India Habitat Centre in New Delhi on Monday (September 9). Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal also attended the event. He shared pictures and said that the discussion was focused on judicial reforms for building a developed India.

He wrote on Twitter in Hindi, “Today, by participating in the Judges’ Meet organized by the legal cell of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, detailed discussions were held on topics related to judicial reforms related to the creation of a developed India. On this occasion, retired judges, other legal experts, senior lawyers and other eminent intellectuals were present in the dignified presence of Vishwa Hindu Parishad President Alok Kumar.
