Russia-UK Conflict: Russia’s Federal Security Service on Friday (13 September 2024) expelled six British diplomats from the country, accusing them of spying. According to Russian state TV, Russia’s FSB security service has claimed that many such documents have been found from those diplomats, which makes it clear that they were spying along with gathering intelligence. Now on this, the UK Foreign Office has issued a statement calling the allegations leveled by Russia’s FSB security service against its employees completely baseless.
Britain explained why the action was taken?
A statement issued by Britain said that Russia had revoked the accreditation of 6 UK diplomats last month following the UK government’s action in response to Russia-directed activity in Europe and the UK. The British Foreign Ministry said that they are neutral to protect their national interests. Russia has taken this step after the US and Britain promised to provide assistance of about $ 1.5 billion to Ukraine.
Ukraine asked for permission for the missile
The incident comes at a time when tensions between Russia and Britain are high, while UK PM Keir Starmer is on a US visit to discuss the war in Ukraine with US President Joe Biden. Ukraine sought permission from Western allies like Britain and the US to use long-range missiles within Russia, after which Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a warning. The Russian President said that Moscow would view such use by Ukraine as an act of war.
