Himachal has strict law against illegal liquor, Sukhu government has made provision for confiscation of property

Illegal Liquor Activities in Himachal Pradesh: The state government is moving towards taking strict action to curb the people involved in the business of making illegal and fake liquor. Himachal Pradesh has become the first state in the country to make a provision for confiscating property in cases of illegal and fake liquor.

Recently, during the monsoon session of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, these provisions have been made by amending the Himachal Pradesh Excise Act- 2011 to crack down on the accused involved in such illegal activities.

Government concerned about involvement of minors

Selling liquor to minors and using them to sell liquor is a very serious issue in Himachal Pradesh. The government is concerned about this. To solve this, the new law now provides for both punishment and fines for the offenders. Offenders can be sentenced to six months in jail and fined up to Rs 50,000. Enforcement agencies are being strengthened to implement these provisions effectively. A provision has also been made to form an Excise Police Force for quick disposal of such cases.

Provision of confiscation of property in the amendment

Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said the most important amendment allows confiscation of property of people involved in illegal activities, their relatives and associates. Earlier, there was no such provision in the Act.

Himachal Pradesh is the first state in the country to implement this provision. Apart from this, to increase the effectiveness of this law, these crimes have now been made serious and non-bailable. The new provisions will prove helpful in controlling activities like illegal liquor trade. In the new amendments, fines and punishments under various sections of the Act have also been increased. Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said that the state government is recruiting more than 1 thousand 200 police personnel.
