UN Voted Against Israel: The United Nations has given Israel a deadline to leave Gaza amid the Israel-Hamas war. In fact, through voting on a resolution, Israel has been asked to withdraw from the Palestinian-occupied area within a year. The atmosphere against Israel can clearly be seen in this voting.
In the voting, 124 votes were cast against Israel, while 14 votes were in support and 43 members did not participate in the voting. It is believed that this vote presents a challenge for Israel and can further weaken the country’s position in the international community.
‘Israeli settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem are illegal’
The resolution endorses comments made by the UN’s top court, the International Court of Justice, that Israel’s presence in the Palestinian territories is illegal and must end. The court ruled in July that Israel was abusing its position as an occupying power.
The court stressed that there are illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
Who is with Israel in voting?
In this resolution against Israel in the United Nations, 124 votes were against. While 14 votes were in favor of Israel, which included the US, Czechia, Hungary, Argentina and many small Pacific island countries. Many US allies, including France, Finland and Mexico, voted in favor of the resolution. At the same time, India, United Kingdom, Ukraine and Canada did not participate in the voting. These countries had to face criticism for not participating in the voting.
