Justice Vedavyasachar Srishananda Controversial Remark: A video of Karnataka High Court judge Justice Vedavyaschar Srishanand has surfaced in which he is heard making insensitive and objectionable remarks on a female lawyer. The Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the matter.

A five-judge bench comprising Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Justice B.R. Gavai, Justice Suryakant and Justice Hrishikesh Roy met this morning and passed an order seeking a report from the Karnataka High Court. The CJI told Attorney General R Venkataramani, “We have gathered here because a judge of the Karnataka High Court has made some unnecessary comments, the videos of which are now being circulated.”

What is the matter?

Recently, two videos of High Court Justice Vedavyaschar Srishanand surfaced on social media, in which he was seen making objectionable remarks. In one video, he was seen calling an area of ​​Bengaluru ‘Pakistan’. In the second video, he was seen making objectionable remarks on a female lawyer. Many social media users, including some lawyers, criticized the remarks of the High Court judge.

Justice Srishanand is heard telling the woman lawyer, “She knows a lot about the opposite party and she can even tell the colour of his undergarments next time.”

What did the Supreme Court say?

The Supreme Court directed the Registrar General of the High Court to submit a report to the Supreme Court after taking administrative instructions from the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court. The next hearing of the case will be on September 25. The Chief Justice said, “In this age of social media, we are under strict surveillance and we have to work accordingly.”
