New revelation on Ana Sebastian’s death, Ernst & Young India office was running without permit

Ernst & Young: A new revelation has been made in the case of the death of 26-year-old CA Anna Sebastian Perayil of Ernst & Young India (EY India). The investigation being conducted against the company in this case has revealed that the Pune office of EY India does not have the state government’s permit to determine working hours. Under this law, the maximum working hours have been fixed at 9 per day and 48 per week. After this revelation, the company now seems to be in trouble.

EY Pune office does not have permit since 2007

Citing government officials, a Reuters report claimed that Ernst & Young India’s Pune office has been operating without a permit since 2007. The central government has also started an investigation against the company in the case of Ana Sebastian’s death. The company is accused of giving Ana Sebastian too much work, due to which she became upset. Eventually, she died in July. This matter came into the limelight after Ana’s mother Anita Augustine wrote an email to the company. EY India and the company’s chairman Rajiv Memani had also apologized on this issue.

The company’s application was rejected this year

The team of Maharashtra’s Additional Labor Commissioner Shailendra Paul had investigated the EY Pune office. He says that the company is not registered in the Shops and Establishments Act of the state government, while it is necessary. The company had applied in February 2024 to register with the Labor Department, which was rejected. We had asked them why they did not apply since 2007. The company has been given 7 days to respond. Under this law, there is a provision of a fine of up to Rs 5 lakh and 6 months imprisonment in case of death or serious injury of an employee.
