Dharmendra Pradhan On Unemployment: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday, September 26, raised the issue of rising unemployment in states ruled by opposition parties and accused them of failing. He said that the rising figures of unemployment, especially among the youth, are worrying.
Pradhan made this remark in the context of the latest data of the Periodic Labor Force Survey (PLFS) from July 2023 to June 2024, which has revealed the problem of employment generation in many opposition-ruled states.
Unemployment rate in Kerala among 15-29 age group is 29.9%
The Union Minister specifically cited the example of Kerala, where the overall unemployment rate in the 15-29 age group is 29.9%. The survey showed a huge gender gap, with the unemployment rate among women at 47.1% and men at 17.8%. Dharmendra Pradhan said, “The future of the youth, especially young women, is being played with and they have been left in the lurch by their own governments. The situation has gone out of control due to corruption and mismanagement in these states.”
Dharmendra Pradhan blamed the policies of opposition-ruled states and said that the governments there pay more attention to short-term populist promises and less to sustainable economic development. He alleged that excessive debt and spending on free schemes have worsened the financial condition of these states, due to which their economy has reached a fragile state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also tweeted on the speech of the Union Education Minister.
“These governments are not just incompetent—they’re dangerous,” Union Min. @dpradhanbjp slams opposition-ruled states for ‘betraying’ their youth with rising unemployment.

Unemployment rate is low in BJP ruled states
The Union minister said that BJP-ruled states have performed better due to stable governance and financial management. States like Madhya Pradesh (2.6%) and Gujarat (3.3%) have had a very low rate of unemployment among the youth. According to Pradhan, these states focused on job creation and strong financial policies, which strengthened their economic structure despite global challenges.
Dharmendra Pradhan said, “While the BJP is continuously working towards empowering the youth and creating employment, the opposition is embroiled in mismanagement and unfulfilled promises.”
