After 10+2 in Physics, Chemistry and Maths, most of the students want to do computer related courses. When it comes to choosing the best computer course after 10+2, apart from B.Tech CS, there are some other computer related graduate courses that offer great prospects in terms of employment opportunities and higher education. Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) and BSc Computer Science are two courses, which open doors to successful careers in the field of Information Technology.
However, it is often found that students are often in a dilemma between BCA and B.Sc Computer Science. Because, both the courses provide almost equal scope in terms of curriculum, higher education and employment opportunities. To understand this dilemma, we will conduct a comparative analysis on each of these educational programs individually after evaluating their main focus areas, general curriculum and market value.
BCA, Bachelor of Computer Application
Bachelor of Computer Applications course is a three-year graduate programme, which focuses on the application of computer science. BCA provides a holistic understanding of Internet technology, web development and mobile applications. Being a practical program, BCA emphasizes on programming languages like C and C++, business communication, software engineering, networking, e-commerce and multimedia systems. BCA is an employment-oriented and practical program, so after completing the course, students can soon get good placement opportunities as per their skills and interest.
B.Sc. Computer Science, Bachelor of Computer Science
Bachelor of Computer Science (BSc CS) is a three-year graduate program that focuses on the core concepts of computer science. BCS provides a holistic understanding of Computer Science, Computer Fundamentals, Architecture, Data Structures and C Programming. It is a theoretical education program which emphasizes mathematical aspects, programming, statistics and concepts of electronics. As B.Sc. Computer Science is a concept-oriented and theoretical program, hence this program is suitable for higher studies and academics.
How is the scope of both?
BSc Computer Science emphasizes the fundamental concepts of computer science. This course does not teach skills like working with clients, designing software according to their needs, testing and software documentation. On the other hand, BCA is an employment-oriented education program, this course prepares you to work efficiently in different job profiles in IT companies. Therefore, in terms of employment opportunities, BCA graduates have an advantage over BSc Computer Science graduates.
These are employment opportunities
BCA graduates are often hired by Wipro, TCS, Infosys, HCL and other leading IT companies. At the same time, BSc CS graduates are hired by security and surveillance companies, electronic equipment manufacturers, system maintenance consultants, technical support teams and banking firms.
