Pakistan Appeal To Russia For BRICS Membership: India’s neighboring country Pakistan is desperate to become a member of BRICS. Meanwhile, he has appealed to India’s best friend Russia to make their country a part of the group. In this regard, Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and Russian Federation Council Chairman Valentiny Matvienko held a meeting in which there was talk about getting entry into BRICS.

Last year, Pakistan had applied for BRICS membership, but it did not get invitation to the BRICS meeting held in Kazan. Pakistan was neither given membership nor received the status of dialogue partner. Pakistan has been kept out of BRICS due to Indian opposition, because India has been objecting to Pakistan’s inclusion in BRICS.

Pakistan’s hopes for BRICS membership
Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch told the media that Pakistan, being an emerging economy and a supporter of multilateral cooperation, can contribute to BRICS. He believes that if Pakistan becomes a member of BRICS, it will give it an opportunity to play an important role in the field of international cooperation.

What is BRICS?
BRICS was formed in 2009 by Brazil, Russia, India and China. Later in 2010, South Africa also joined it. Recently, as part of its expansion, BRICS also included Iran, Ethiopia, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates as members, taking its total members to 9. The objective of this group is to promote economic cooperation among developing countries and play an important role in the global economic structure.
