The Electoral College here has a group of representatives from each state, who elect the President on the basis of their party. This means that people living in every state of America will vote for their local candidate on November 5 and his victory will become important for the next presidential election in the country. Simply put, only the candidate who wins from the state becomes entitled to take the final decision in the presidential election.

The Electoral College system is used in the US presidential elections, which provides a certain number of electoral votes to each state. The total number of Electoral College votes is 538. Every state in the country gets two seats in the US Senate, hence every state gets two electoral votes. At the same time, each state gets representatives in the US House of Representatives according to its population. This means that a state gets more representatives and electoral votes if its population is greater.

The election formula is as follows
Electoral votes of each state = 2 (Senate representation) + Number of representatives in the state’s House of Representatives. Thus 50 states and Washington D.C. (who gets 3 electoral votes) together, there are a total of 538 electoral votes. To become the President of the country, a candidate needs at least 270 votes out of 538 electoral votes, which is considered an absolute majority. This system ensures that the presidential election is based on a balanced representation of the states and not just on population. In this way, small states also get proper representation.
