In some areas of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, as soon as Chhath festival ends, the festival of Sama Chakeva starts from the same day. In this festival women sing songs of Sama Chakeva and Chugla Chugli. Bihar’s famous singer Sharda Sinha has sung many types of songs about Sama Chakeva. Women who celebrate this festival make clay idols. Which includes statues of Sama Chakeva, Chugla, Satbhaiya, Vrindavan and birds. This festival reflects the sacred relationship between brother and sister.

Sama Chakeva will start on Friday 8th November and end on Friday 15th November 2024. Let us tell you that on the Saptami Tithi of Kartik Shukla Paksha, women prepare Sama Chakeva.

According to mythology, some gossiper had made false allegations regarding the relationship with Sama, the daughter of Lord Shri Krishna. Because of which Shri Krishna got angry and cursed Sama to become a bird. For many days, Sama remained a bird due to the curse. But Sama’s brother Chakeva, with the power of his love and sacrifice, brought Sama back into human form. Along with freeing her sister from the curse, Chakewa also got Chugle tortured. Guided by the same story, the brother-sister relationship is celebrated as the festival of Sama Chakeva, eight days after Chhath in a year.

The tradition of this festival is quite different. In this, the idol of Chugla is made with a long braid. There is a tradition of setting fire to Chugla’s braid and beating it with shoes. According to tradition, on this day sisters feed curd-chuda to brothers. But this festival is mainly celebrated in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
