The credit for BJP’s victory in this election is being given to a joint and coordinated campaign. State and central leaders worked together in this. On one hand, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis and state unit chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule worked in their areas, providing support to every candidate, while on the other hand, PM Narendra ModiAmit Shah, Nitin Gadkari and Yogi Adityanath Like experienced campaigners tried their best to counter the anti-incumbency wave. The RSS played an important role in mobilizing grassroots support through an extensive campaign involving more than 60,000 meetings across the state. This effort helped in consolidating votes and neutralizing the caste-based strategies adopted by the opposition. Apart from this, the BJP also benefited from its well-organized campaign machine, which ensured effective candidate selection, reach out to voters and smooth coordination with allies.
Many Congress stalwarts could not save their seats
Unlike the BJP, the Congress campaign was marred by infighting, lack of grassroots mobilization and its inability to project a credible leadership. Even stalwarts like Balasaheb Thorat and Prithviraj Chavan lost their seats. Of the 75 seats that were locked in a tie with the BJP, the Congress managed to win only 10, mostly in areas where the minority population was high or where local leaders were dominant. There is no MLA left in and around the Konkan region. Congress now has one MLA each in North Maharashtra, Western Maharashtra and Marathwada. State Congress chief Nana Patole himself could barely save his Sakoli seat. He won by only 208 votes.
