Violence against Minorities in Bangladesh: Cases of atrocities on Hindu minorities are continuously being seen in Bangladesh. The interim government of Mohammad Yunus is not able to stop the atrocities on temples and Hindus. Regarding this, Hindu American groups have now condemned the attacks on minorities in Bangladesh. Hindu American groups have also demanded that US aid to the South Asian country should be conditional on the government taking concrete action to protect the minority community.
The total population of Bangladesh is 17 crores, of which minority Hindu population is only 8 percent. The minority Hindu population in Bangladesh has faced more than 200 attacks in more than 50 districts of the country since the overthrow of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. At the beginning of this week, on Monday (November 25), the situation worsened after the arrest of Hindu spiritual leader and former ISKCON chief Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari. Bangladesh’s Dhaka Metropolitan Police has arrested Chinmay Das from Dhaka Airport and detained him on charges of treason. After which people of Hindu community started protests in many other cities including Dhaka, Chittagong.
People of Hindu community angry at Biden administration
Vishwa Hindu Parishad, America (VHPA) President Ajay Shah said that the news of the arrest of Chinmoy Das, vandalism of Kali temple in Chittagong and increasing attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh is disturbing. He asked, ‘Is this the human rights legacy for which the Joe Biden administration wants to be remembered?’
At the same time, VHPA General Secretary Amitabh Mittal said, ‘The silence of the global media on the atrocities on minorities in Bangladesh is very shocking. The arrest of former ISKCON chief Chinmoy Das and violent attacks on Hindu temples reflect an alarming rise in religious intolerance. These incidents are part of a wider trend of discrimination.
Demand raised to stop American funding in Bangladesh
VHPA general secretary said, ‘The lack of international condemnation further emboldens criminals and threatens the security and freedom of minority communities in Bangladesh.’ Hindus for America First (HFAF) has written an open letter to newly elected President Donald Trump demanding a halt to US funding for China’s ambitious projects in Bangladesh.
