Bangladesh Ruckus: Atrocities against minorities continue in Bangladesh. Especially Hindus are being targeted, temples are being attacked. After the recent attacks on temples and minorities in Chittagong, Hindus have been forced to move to safer places. After Friday prayers, several shops near Kotwali police station in Chittagong were also targeted.
India Today report quoted sources as saying that Radha Govinda and Shantaneshwari Matri Temple were targeted by extremists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). This incident occurred when a march was being taken out in the area demanding a ban on Hindu religious organization ISKCON.
Police and army turned a blind eye and did not help
Eyewitnesses said that the police and army personnel did not come forward to help the Hindus and remained mute spectators. This area is mainly Hindu dominated and 90% of the population here belongs to the Hindu community. Many members of the community have left the area due to fear of increasing violence. There have been several incidents of desecration and damage to Hindu temples and deities in Bangladesh since the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government in August. More than 200 temples have been targeted.
Chinmay Das’s arrest added fuel to the fire
The arrest of Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das on treason charges has added fuel to the fire. After the arrest of Chinmoy Das, massive protests have started in the Hindu community and clashes have also taken place with security personnel. ISKCON has also been targeted and a petition has been filed in the High Court demanding a ban on it. The Bangladesh government has called it a “religious fundamentalist organization”. However, the court has refused to ban this global organization.
Indian government reprimanded Mohammad Yunus
In view of the increasing incidents of violence against minorities, the Indian government said that it is the responsibility of the interim government led by Mohammad Yunus to protect the life and freedom of Hindus in Bangladesh. The Ministry of External Affairs said on Friday, “India has consistently and strongly raised the issue of threats and targeted attacks on Hindus and other minorities with the Government of Bangladesh. We are concerned by the rise in extremist rhetoric. We urge Bangladesh to take steps for the protection of minorities.” Call for lifting.”
