SC Hearing On Shambhu Border: The Supreme Court will hear the demand for opening the Shambhu border on Wednesday (December 18, 2024). In the hearing held on December 13, the court had refused to order the immediate opening of the border. Instead, the court had asked the committee formed on its behalf to talk to the farmers. The committee was asked to explain to the farmers that their demands are being considered. Therefore, either postpone the movement or change the place of your protest so that the highway can open. The committee will give a report in this regard to the court.
The court had warned the Haryana and Punjab governments not to use any force in this peaceful movement. Along with this, the fast unto death of farmer leader Jagjit Dallewal will also be discussed in the Supreme Court. The committee has to give a report on this also. Earlier, the court had said that the central and state governments should keep an eye on his health. Force may not be used to break the hunger strike, but their lives are important. Therefore, steps should be taken when necessary to save their lives.
Court asked for report from high powered committee
During the hearing, the Advocate General of Punjab had requested that the court should not order Dallewal to be shifted to the hospital. This may worsen the situation. On this, the court had said that after talking to Dallewal, he should be convinced to break the fast. The court has asked the high powered committee to submit a report on this aspect in the hearing to be held on Tuesday.
‘It is necessary to find a solution for the farmers’
The bench headed by Supreme Court Justice Surya Kant had said that it is necessary to find a solution to the demands for which the farmers are agitating. Therefore, he has formed a committee. Keep in mind that on September 2, the Supreme Court had formed a 5-member high powered committee under the leadership of Justice Nawab Singh, former judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court. The committee was asked to talk to the farmers on MSP and other issues.
