The BCCI constitution says that it is mandatory for a new appointment to be made on any vacant post within 45 days. Quoting PTI, a state cricket association said, “After the council meeting held on Thursday, a message was sent to all the state cricket associations regarding a special general meeting. The meeting will be held at the BCCI headquarters on January 12.” Let us tell you that along with Jai Shah, Ashish Shelar had left the post of Treasurer, who has got the post of Cabinet Minister in the recently formed new Maharashtra government.
According to the same report, the message sent by the board read, “Since the posts of Secretary and Treasurer have become vacant, it is necessary to fill these posts through the election process in the Special General Meeting.” Former Election Commissioner Achal Kumar Jyoti has been declared the election officer for these internal elections of BCCI. Let us tell you that Achal Kumar Jyoti was the Election Commissioner of India from July 2017 to January 2018. At present Devjit Saikia is holding the post of interim secretary of BCCI, on the other hand the post of treasurer is lying vacant.
