Sita Navami 2026 Story: Sita Navmi is celebrated every year on the ninth date of Shukla Paksha of Vaishakh month. This year this festival is on 25 April 2026. In Hindu religion, this day is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Mother Sita.
On the incarnation day of Mother Sita i.e. Sita Navami, any devotee who worships her with true heart and recites the fast story, gets the special blessings of Lord Shri Ram and Hanuman ji along with Mother Sita.
Folktale related to Sita Navami
According to a popular fast story related to Sita Navami, in the Marwar region a Brahmin named Devdutt lived with his beautiful wife Shobhana. The Brahmin deity had gone from his village to some other village to beg for alms, here Shobhana, the Brahmin deity’s wife, got trapped in bad company and indulged in wrong conduct.
This wrongdoing of Brahmini started being discussed in the entire village. But that evil woman set fire to the village and when she died, her next birth was in the house of a Chandala. Due to betrayal and abandonment of her husband, she became Chandalini, due to burning of the village, she suffered from leprosy and due to adultery, she also became blind.
In this way, she started wandering in different countries, suffering day by day due to her past deeds. Once, wandering by chance, she reached the city of Kaushalpuri, where coincidentally that day was the ninth day of Shukla Paksha of Vaishakh month, which is capable of destroying all sins.
On the holy festival of Janaki Navami, she became hungry and thirsty and started praying – O gentlemen! Have mercy on me and give me something to eat. Saying, I am dying of hunger, she passed through the thousand flower-studded pillars in front of Kanak Bhavan and entered it. He again said, brother, please help me and give me something to eat.
Meanwhile, a devotee said to her – Goddess, today is the day of Sita Navami, the one who gives food in food is considered a sin, hence today there will be no food in food. Come tomorrow at the time of Parana, eat as much of Thakur ji’s Prasad as you want, but he did not agree. When asked more, the devotee gave him basil and water. That sinner died of hunger. But unknowingly the fast of Sita Navami was completed.
With the blessings of Mother Sita, she was freed from all sins. Due to the effect of this fast, that sinner became pure and lived happily in heaven for infinite years. After this, she became famous as Maharani Kamkala of Maharaj Jai Singh of Kamrup country. This fasting story related to Sita Navami works to make this holy day even more spiritual.
Any devotee who worships Mother Sita with a true heart on the occasion of Sita Navami, gets all kinds of happiness and good fortune. One thing which I don’t know how many people have noticed, both Lord Shri Ram and Mother Sita were born on Navami Tithi, in the same way Lord Shri Krishna and Radha were born on Ashtami Tithi, which somewhere shows the divinity of true love.
