The second and final phase of voting in the West Bengal Assembly elections 2026 will be completed on Wednesday (29 April 2026). As soon as this phase ends, the fate of all the candidates in 4 states and one union territory will be sealed in EVMs. This last phase is considered very important in West Bengal, because with this the entire election process will end. Voting is taking place on 142 seats in the second phase. The atmosphere regarding elections is very heated in the entire state and political activities are intense in all the districts. A tough contest is being witnessed between the ruling Trinamool Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party. Both the parties are appealing to the voters at the last moment to vote as much as possible.

The eyes of the people of the country are fixed on the exit polls. According to the rules of the Election Commission, the results of the exit poll can be released only after 6:30 pm on Wednesday (April 29, 2026). These cannot be made public before this. According to Election Commission data, there was a record voting percentage of 93.2 percent in West Bengal in the first phase. 85.1 percent voting was recorded in Tamil Nadu. Voting has been completed on all 126 seats in Assam, where 85.5 percent people cast their votes. Voting took place on 140 seats in Kerala, where voting was recorded between 75 to 78 percent. 89.87 percent voting took place in Puducherry, which is the highest voting percentage there so far. Counting of votes in all these states and union territories will be done on May 4, after which the results will be known.

What is exit poll?

If we understand what an exit poll is in simple language, it is a kind of survey. In this, when people come out of the polling booth after voting, they are asked for whom they voted. Its purpose is to understand where the public is inclined, so that an estimate can be made before the official results. In this process, different survey agencies and media organizations deploy their people at some selected polling stations. As soon as a voter comes out, he is asked some questions. Then these answers are collected and analyzed based on the data. Through this, it is estimated how many votes a party can get and how many seats it can win.
