Why did Iran hang so many people?
According to Al Jazeera, the UN said that at least nine people have been sentenced to death in connection with the protests that have rocked Iran in January 2026 since the war began following US and Israeli attacks in late February.

At the same time, 10 other people have been given death sentence for being alleged members of opposition groups and two people have been given death sentence for espionage. At the same time, more than 4 thousand people have been arrested on national security grounds.

Apart from this, it was reported that people in jail have been subjected to disappearance, torture or cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment. This also includes forced confessions. Also include sham death sentences.

UN Chief appealed, said- stop death sentences immediately

UN Human Rights chief Volker Turk said he was shocked that, beyond the serious first effects of the conflict, the Iranian people’s human rights have been taken away by the authorities in a harsh and brutal manner, and this is continuing. I appeal to the authorities to stop all further death sentences. Ban the death penalty. Ensure guarantee of legal process and fair trial. Also release those arbitrarily arrested. Iran executes more people every year than any other country except China.
