Why did Shubman Gill deliberately miss the chance to score a double century, know the reason

Indian captain Shubman Gill performed brilliantly in batting in the second ODI against Afghanistan. He played an excellent inning of 154 runs in difficult conditions and played an important role in taking Team India to a huge score. However, his statement after the match attracted the most discussion.

Gill’s innings was not limited to just scoring runs. During this, he showed that the team’s goal is more important for him than personal records. This was the reason why despite the possibility of getting close to a double century, he did not reduce the pace of his batting.

In the match against Afghanistan, India batted first and scored a big score of 402 runs. Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan laid the foundation of this huge score. Gill scored 154 runs while Ishan Kishan also played a century to put the team in a strong position.

After the match, Shubman Gill, who was chosen Player of the Match, said that he definitely had the goal of scoring a double century in his mind. But at that time his priority was to take the team to around 430 runs. For this reason, he continued to bat aggressively and kept trying to hit big shots.

Gill said that his confidence while batting was very high and he was able to hit the ball in the direction he wanted. He also told that before the start of the series, his aim was to control the match by staying at the crease for a long time.

The special thing about this innings was that Gill continued batting despite the intense heat and body cramps. Due to being at the crease for a long time, he had to face a lot of physical problems. This was the reason why he could not come on the field for fielding during Afghanistan’s innings and Shreyas Iyer took over the responsibility of captaincy.

India set a target of 403 runs and Afghanistan’s team was reduced to 232 runs. With this victory, the Indian team further strengthened its position in the series.

Shubman Gill’s innings of 154 runs was not just a big individual achievement. This was also an example of the thinking in which the player puts the needs of the team before his own records. Perhaps this is the reason why this innings made a place in the hearts of people more than the scoreboard.
