How will India become anemia free? Government changed the entire model, now treatment will be done through digital tracking

How India Plans to Become Anemia Free: Anemia is still one of the biggest health challenges in India. Its effect is not limited to women only, but also affects the health of pregnant women, children and newborns. This is the reason why the Central Government has now made a major change in its strategy to make the country anemia free. The government believes that this problem cannot be completely controlled just by distributing iron tablets. Therefore, now testing, treatment, proper eating habits and digital monitoring have also been made important parts of the campaign.

New guidelines issued

Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda has issued revised guidelines for Anemia Free India Campaign. Under the new guideline, now 7x7x7 strategy will be implemented in place of the old 6x6x6 model. Its objective is to identify anemia in time, ensure treatment and continuously monitor patients. The biggest feature of this new strategy is that for the first time low birth weight newborns (0 to 6 months) have also been included in the campaign. The government believes that if work is done on prevention of anemia from the beginning of life, then the serious impact on children’s health can be reduced to a great extent.

These things were added

The government has also added the ‘Eating Right’ initiative to the campaign. Under this, people will be made aware to make iron-rich and balanced food their daily habit. Instead of relying only on medicines, equal emphasis will be laid on preventing anemia through nutrition. In the new guidelines, the T3 model, test, treat and talk, which was earlier being adopted, has now been changed to the T4 model. ‘Track’ has also been included in this. That is, after finding anemia in a person, not only will there be treatment, but it will also be seen whether the treatment is having any effect or not and whether further treatment is being provided on time if needed.

What about those who are not affected by medicines?

For pregnant and lactating women who have severe anemia or who do not respond to iron tablets, the provision of intravenous iron will also be part of the national treatment protocol. For this, medicines like ferric carboxymaltose and iron sucrose will be used. A digital system has also been prepared to make the campaign more effective. The record of hemoglobin test of pregnant women will be recorded on the Janani portal, while the information of children will be uploaded on the National Child Health Program and U-WIN portal. Later all these platforms will be linked to the integrated Anemia Mukt Bharat Portal. This will make it easier for the government to find out the condition of anemia in which area and which people have still not received treatment or nutrition services.
