Prime Minister amidst reducing tension in West Asia Narendra Modi On Tuesday, he spoke on phone with Iranian President Masoud Pejeshkian. During this, there was a detailed discussion between the two leaders regarding the current situation of the area and the future situation.
In the conversation, President Pejeshkian informed Prime Minister Modi about the recent developments and future direction of West Asia. Prime Minister Modi welcomed the ceasefire in the region and efforts to reduce tension.
PM Modi once again reiterated India’s clear stand and said that resolution of all disputes is possible only through dialogue and diplomacy. He also stressed the need for continued efforts to ensure lasting peace and stability in West Asia as well as uninterrupted security of maritime navigation and global trade. India has consistently maintained that peace and stability in West Asia is extremely important for the economic and strategic security of not only the region but the entire world.
India maintained diplomatic relations with Iran
Tension has increased in West Asia due to the conflict between Iran, Israel and America. Because of this, India maintained constant contact with Tehran at high level political, strategic and humanitarian levels.
During this period, from talks between heads of government to ministers’ meetings and BRICS programmes, avenues for dialogue between the two countries are open. PM Modi has spoken to the President of Iran twice since the confrontation. In these, the changing situation in the region has been discussed and the need for peace, stability and dialogue has been emphasized. During this period, Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar remained in touch with his Iranian counterparts Abbas Araghchi. There have been talks between the two more than five times.
