Even after seeing many doctors, the reason for her problem could not be understood, whereas incidents like domestic violence and emotional neglect were related to her childhood.

What is the effect on our body?

According to experts, when a child lives in an environment of fear or insecurity for a long time, his body starts constantly being in fight or flight mode. Due to this, stress hormones remain elevated for a long time, which gradually affects many organs of the body. This is the reason why many people later develop high blood pressure, autoimmune diseases, depression, obesity and sleep-related problems.

What is the effect on the health of victims of childhood violence?

The most famous research on this topic is considered to be ACE done in America, which was done by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and Kaiser Permanente. More than 17 thousand people were included in this study. Research revealed that people who had faced situations like violence, neglect, domestic stress or addiction in childhood were found to be at higher risk of serious diseases after growing up.

Another research published in JAMA Pediatrics also observed a link between childhood trauma and autoimmune diseases. These studies changed the way doctors thought. Now trauma is being considered not just as a mental memory but as a biological condition that affects the body.
