Amarnath Yatra 2026: Are you preparing for the darshan of Baba Amarnath? Take note from Jammu Base Camp

Amarnath Yatra 2026: The year-long wait of Baba Amarnath devotees across the country has finally ended today. The darshan of the supernatural Himlinga of Baba Barfani situated in the holy cave of the Kashmir Himalayas has started from today. On this auspicious occasion, slogans of ‘Bam Bam Bhole’ and ‘Har Har Mahadev’ are echoing everywhere.

Meanwhile, the second large batch of Amarnath pilgrims has left for Baltal and Pahalgam of Kashmir amid very tight security arrangements from Yatri Niwas Base Camp in Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu.

The second group left at 3 am

Huge enthusiasm is being seen among the devotees of Lord Bholenath regarding this yatra. According to officials, the second batch of devotees left for the valley from Jammu Base Camp at around 3:00 am on Friday morning. This group is moving towards Srinagar under the protection of armored vehicles of security forces. The administration has taken very strict steps to ensure safe movement of passengers on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH 44).

Darshan will be done from Baltal route today only, Pahalgam people will reach tomorrow

According to the Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB), the pattern of the yatra is different on both the routes:

Baltal Marg (Ganderbal): This route is short (about 14 km) but quite straight and steep. Devotees traveling on foot through this route will be able to reach the holy cave today itself and have darshan of Himlinga.

Pahalgam Route (Anantnag): This is a traditional and ancient route of 48 kilometers, where the climb is gradual. Devotees going through this route will have the darshan of Baba Barfani on Saturday while undertaking the journey on foot.

Unprecedented security: Cobra commandos deployed and highway sealed

Keeping in view the safety of the devotees, the 300 km long Jammu-Srinagar highway has been converted into a fort. The responsibility of security of the journey has been entrusted to the special ‘Cobra Commandos’ of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), who are continuously traveling with the convoy of passengers.

As per safety protocol, when this group passes through the highway, the entire route is temporarily sealed. No unauthorized vehicle is allowed to enter the convoy. Before the convoy leaves, the entire highway is completely sanitized (checked) with the help of bomb disposal squad, dog squad and modern metal detectors. Surveillance is also being maintained at various places through CCTV and drone cameras.

The journey will conclude on Rakshabandhan

This year (2026) Amarnath Yatra will continue for 57 days. This holy pilgrimage, which started today i.e. from 3rd July, will conclude on 28th August, the holy day of Rakshabandhan, with the installation of ‘Chhadi Mubarak’ and the last puja. The administration has appealed to the devotees to completely follow the safety rules and health guidelines.
