Goa CM Pramod Sawant’s support on One Nation, One Election, said- ‘Resources will be saved’

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has supported the idea of ​​holding simultaneous elections in the country. He said that with the implementation of ‘one country, one election’ system, the governance system will be more stable, governments will be able to work better on long-term plans and government resources will be used in a better way.

The Chief Minister said that the Goa Government fully supports the process of consultation and discussion being run by the Central Government regarding this proposed constitutional reform. According to him, frequent elections put more burden on the administrative system and resources, whereas simultaneous elections will allow more attention to be given to development work and policy making work.

Pramod Sawant’s statement

Pramod Sawant gave this statement after discussions with the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) headed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Lok Sabha MP P.P. Chaudhary. This committee is reviewing and examining the Constitution (129th Amendment) Bill, 2024 and the Union Territory Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024. The Chief Minister said that the arrangement of holding simultaneous elections will reduce the election expenditure, the pressure on the administrative machinery will reduce and governments will get an opportunity to spend more time on public interest and development related work instead of continuous election preparations.

Central government’s stance on one country, one election

The central government is taking opinions from different states, political parties and other stakeholders regarding the concept of ‘one country, one election’. Under this proposal, a system of holding elections for Lok Sabha and state assemblies at the same time is being considered.
