ABVP’s protest demanding increase in seats in one-year PG course, alleging negligence on the administration

Student dissatisfaction seems to be increasing regarding the limited seats in one-year postgraduate (PG) courses in Delhi University. Regarding this issue, the Delhi unit of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) demonstrated outside the Arts Faculty and raised its voice against the university administration. After the demonstration, the council delegation met DU Registrar Prof. While submitting the memorandum to Vikas Gupta, he demanded immediate increase in seats in one-year PG courses. A large number of students from various colleges of the university participated in the demonstration.

Lack of seats becomes a big issue after four year undergraduate program

ABVP says that the number of students completing four-year undergraduate programs under the National Education Policy (NEP) is continuously increasing, but seats in one-year postgraduate courses have not been increased accordingly. In such a situation, a large number of qualified and eligible students are being deprived of admission merely due to lack of seats. The council demanded that adequate seats should be increased in all one-year PG courses so that no deserving student is deprived of higher education.

During the demonstration, students presented their demands to the administration

The students participating in the demonstration organized outside the Arts Faculty demanded an early decision from the university administration. The protesters said that it is necessary to increase the admission capacity to ensure equal opportunities for higher education. The students demanded immediate increase in seats in one-year postgraduate courses and urged the administration to take immediate action on this issue.

ABVP bid- lack of seats is injustice to the future of students

ABVP Delhi State Minister Sarthak Sharma said that Delhi University is the first choice of lakhs of students across the country, but the shortage of seats in the current system is doing injustice to the future of the students. He said that the number of students willing to take admission in one-year PG courses after the four-year undergraduate program is continuously increasing, hence the university administration should increase the seats substantially with immediate effect.

Committee formed after the movement, claims decision in 10 days

According to ABVP, after the demonstration and memorandum, Delhi University administration has formed a committee under the leadership of Dean (Enrolment). This committee will study the issue related to increase in seats in one-year postgraduate courses and try to take a decision in the interest of the students within 10 days. The Student Council has made it clear that if the university administration does not take a positive decision soon, then the movement will be further expanded in the interest of the students.
