Giving information about the new Prime Minister’s assumption of office, a spokesperson for Buckingham Palace said, “This morning the King met Keir Starmer and tendered his resignation as Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury, which Her Majesty happily accepted.”
Burnham promises stable politics
Burnham was elected leader of the Labor Party without opposition last week. He was the only candidate to become the party’s new leader, receiving the nomination of 379 out of 403 Labor MPs in the House of Commons. It is expected that he will immediately start working as Prime Minister after announcing his selected names for the cabinet. He is the fifth Prime Minister of the country in the last four years. He has promised to bring “stable and responsible” politics. Earlier, Starmer gave his last speech as Prime Minister of Britain from 10 Downing Street and then went to meet the King to formally tender his resignation.

“My work is done,” Keir Starmer said in his final speech. Along with this, he said that he is handing over the responsibility of the country to Baton Burnham and he has her full support. “I’m leaving well, I’m leaving with a smile and I’m proud of what we’ve achieved,” Starmer said. 63-year-old Starmer is a Labor Party MP. He had announced his resignation last month.
