Islamabad: According to a report in ‘The Times of Israel’, Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir used his business ties with a high-level Iranian military commander to broker a secret deal between Tehran and Riyadh. These include a Middle East diplomat, an intelligence official from the region and another person with knowledge of the talks.

The diplomat said the deal “justified the ransom payment” because it allowed Tehran to extract concessions from regional countries that wanted to avoid becoming targets in a larger conflict.
