People with type 2 diabetes should be careful, risk of dengue is higher

According to experts, due to high blood sugar the body’s immune system becomes weak. Due to this, dengue virus can spread rapidly in the body. In such patients, the risk of sudden decrease in platelet count, bleeding in internal parts of the body and dengue shock syndrome also increases. Research has also shown that conditions like age, obesity, kidney disease and uncontrolled blood sugar can further increase this risk.

According to reports, more than 10 crore people in India are affected by diabetes. In these, the risk of heart attack, stroke and serious infection is 2 to 4 times more than that of normal people. Blood sugar of a large number of patients in the country is not under control, hence inclusion of dengue vaccine in the routine care of diabetic patients should be considered. Several international observational studies and meta-analyses also indicate that diabetic patients may have a higher risk of severe dengue and death.

The initial symptoms of dengue in diabetic patients can be the same as in normal people. These include high fever, body and joint pain, headache, pain behind the eyes, nausea, vomiting and skin rashes. If these symptoms appear then one should not be careless.

If during dengue there is continuous vomiting, severe pain in the stomach, excessive weakness or lethargy, bleeding from the gums or nose, less urination, dizziness or blood sugar suddenly increases or falls, then you should immediately contact the doctor. According to experts, such symptoms can be a sign of a serious condition.

According to experts, such symptoms can be a sign of a serious condition.

According to experts, diabetic patients should use repellents and wear clothes that cover the entire body to protect themselves from mosquitoes. Water should not be allowed to accumulate around the house so that mosquitoes do not breed. Besides, it is also important to keep blood sugar under control, get regular checkups done, drink enough water and take a balanced diet. If fever persists for more than 1 to 2 days, you should consult a doctor without delay.

In case of dengue, temporary changes in some diabetes medicines may be required depending on the patient's condition, hunger and amount of water in the body. Along with this, it is important to regularly monitor blood sugar, platelets count and general health condition of the patient. With this the risk of serious complications can be reduced.
