Having only spider veins usually does not cause pain or other symptoms. A person often comes to know about them only after looking at the feet. Such people may feel burning, cramps, itching and pain in the legs. Legs may feel heavy or tired. Bleeding can also occur if varicose veins present close to the skin burst. Why do spider veins start forming?

Spider veins form when small blood vessels under the skin become weak and dilate. The exact reason why this happens is not known to every person. However, changes in hormones, some genetic disorders, diseases related to connective tissue and any kind of injury can be its reasons. Some people are more at risk. Sitting or standing in one place for a long time, having a family history of spider or varicose veins and obesity can increase the risk. Similarly, the appearance of wounds, rashes or change in color on the skin of the feet, persistent burning sensation, pain or cramps can also indicate the need for medical examination.
