How Static Electricity Affects Floor Cleaning: While cleaning the house, removing hair lying on the floor sometimes becomes the most difficult task. Especially long hair or pet hair gets stuck on the floor in such a way that it is not completely cleaned even after sweeping repeatedly. Many times the broom keeps moving forward and the hair gets blown here and there with the wind and reaches the floor again. This problem is seen more in the bathroom, bedroom, around the sofa and in the corners of the house. However, a little work done before sweeping can make collecting the hair easier.
Do this work before sweeping
To easily collect the hair present on the floor, a little water can be sprayed on the bristles of the broom i.e. its lower part. Keep in mind that the broom should not be completely wet. There should be just enough moisture that the bristles become slightly damp. After this, sweep the floor in the usual manner. Moisture can cause hair to easily collect along the broom’s bristles. This makes it easier to collect the hair at one place instead of running it here and there on the floor again and again. This method can be especially useful in those houses where long hair or pet hair is more visible on the floor.
Why does this method work?
Static electricity could be a reason behind this. Hair and pet fur can pick up static charges as they come in contact with and rub against carpet, furniture, clothing and other surfaces. For this reason, sometimes hair sticks to the floor or other surfaces and it becomes difficult to collect them with a normal broom. Light humidity can help reduce the effects of this static charge. This makes it easier to collect the hair at one place with the broom. The hair stuck in the bristles of the broom can later be removed with the help of a dustpan and thrown into the dustbin.
Take care before spraying cleaner
Some people lightly spray all-purpose cleaner on the broom for this trick. Surfactants in cleaning products can improve contact between the broom and hair, causing more hair to get trapped in the bristles. However, using cleaner every time may not be the right option. Spraying cleaner on a broom may cause some of it to reach the floor. This can leave cleaning product residue on the floor and make the surface slippery. If there are pets in the house, it is important to ensure that they do not come in contact with any chemical present on the floor or lick it. This is why using only mild water can be an easier option. Moisten the broom by lightly spraying water and then sweep the broom over the hairy area.

Caution is necessary while using vinegar
A mild mixture of vinegar with water can also be used to reduce static charge, but it is not suitable for all types of floors. Vinegar should not be used especially on natural stone and hardwood floors. A better option is to lightly moisten the broom with water only on such surfaces. Before using anything for cleaning the floor, make sure to check whether it is safe for that surface or not. Do not use too much water, because its purpose is not to wet the floor but only to give light moisture to the broom.

Rubber broom can also be useful
If there is a lot of problem of hair fall in the house, then instead of the normal broom, a broom with rubber or silicone bristles can also be used. Such a broom can be useful in collecting hair and dust. This is the reason why this type of broom is often seen in places like hair salons. Some other habits can also be helpful in reducing hair fall. Detangling your hair thoroughly before washing it can reduce the number of loose hairs that fall out during the shower. A lint roller, lint brush or slightly damp rubber gloves can be used to remove hair stuck on furniture and clothes.
