Karnataka BJP President: karnataka assembly elections After the humiliating defeat, the BJP has decided to remove state president Nalin Kumar Kateel. Sources gave information on Tuesday (May 16). The party supported Kateel throughout his tenure and even former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa and senior leaders had to bow down before him.
The party did not give Yeddyurappa and his son BY Vijayendra any chance to take on the killer. Sources said that the results of the assembly elections have turned their back and the high command is completely upset with them for not being able to assess the situation.
What did the results of the Karnataka elections reveal?
Although the BJP was showing strength in the beginning, it is facing an existential crisis in the state. Sources said the Congress has aggressively cornered the Lingayat, Dalit and OBC vote banks and is preparing the ground for the Lok Sabha polls.
The results showed that Vokkaliga is with Shivakumar. Minorities and Dalits are with Siddaramaiah, and have shifted to the Congress with the party’s outreach to the Lingayat community. In such a situation, BJP is looking for momentum. As a first step towards rejuvenation, the BJP has decided to appoint a new face who can appeal to the masses.
What signal did Union Minister Prahlad Joshi give?
Union minister Prahlad Joshi on Tuesday (May 16) indicated that state president Nalin Kumar Kateel could be replaced after the party’s defeat in the assembly elections. He has already completed his term of three years. Kateel, a three-time Lok Sabha member from Dakshina Kannada, was appointed chief of the state unit in August 2019 for a three-year term. He was given extension last year in view of the impending elections.
Joshi said, “I would just like to say that his (Katil’s) tenure of three years has come to an end. In view of the (Assembly) elections, our national leaders had given him the responsibility. Our leaders will decide further.” When asked about the next step of the BJP after the humiliating defeat in the assembly elections, he said that the party will introspect.
What did Nalin Kumar Kateel say?
Joshi said that we have already said that this is the most disappointing result for BJP. Such incidents keep happening in elections. We have to find out the reason. Let us inform that out of 224 seats in Karnataka, Congress had registered on 135 seats.
Whereas BJP got 66 and JDS got 19 seats. After the election results were announced, Kateel had said that as the state unit chief, he took responsibility for the party’s defeat in the elections.
