What did CM Dhami say?
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said last week that 90 per cent work on the Uniform Civil Code for the state has been completed and its draft will be ready by June 30. He had said that the committee headed by former Supreme Court judge Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai has told him that it will submit its draft by June 30, after which steps will be taken to implement it.
The implementation of the Uniform Civil Code in the state was one of the major election issues of the BJP in the assembly elections held in February last year and with the victory in the election, the BJP created history by coming to power for the second consecutive time in the state. In fact, after the victory in the Uttarakhand assembly elections regarding the Uniform Civil Code, the BJP government had constituted a drafting committee.
After this the committee started preparing the draft. If sources are to be believed, the committee can complete and hand over the draft of the Uniform Civil Code to the government by the end of this month. After which the Dhami government will try to pass this bill in the assembly and implement it on the ground. It is likely to be implemented in the state by the end of this year.
