The secret of Indraprastha, the capital of Pandavas, will be revealed! ASI found evidence related to Mahabharata period in excavation

ASI Searching Indraprastha: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) said that the evidence found near Purana Quila in Delhi seems to date back to the Mahabharata period i.e. around 1100 BC. ASI director Vasant Swarnakar says that he has found painted pottery during excavations in the fort. They are related to the Mahabharata period.

The ongoing excavation campaign in the old fort of Delhi is being done under the supervision of Vasant Swarnakar. He said that different periods are identified with different pottery styles. The pottery found here is painted gray and designs and strokes have been made in black.

The search started in 1970 – ASI
In a conversation with India Today, ASI director Swarnakar said that in the 1970s India’s famous archaeologist B.B. Lal started excavations at the places mentioned in the Mahabharata. He later concluded that the deepest cultural layer was the painted pottery itself.

He said that to understand any period, its pottery styles are recognized. Like Mauryan, Gupta, Rajput etc. cultures, pottery of Mahabharata period is also associated with it. He said that this is an established fact among contemporary historians.

It is too early to say Indraprastha at the moment – ​​ASI
He said that the recent discovery of pottery shards under the stepwell of the Maurya period suggests that the excavation site must have seen some activity during the Mahabharata period. However, he said that it is too early to say that this is the ancient Indraprastha capital.

He said that it will take about two years to complete the excavation work. Only then can a concrete claim be made about it. Vasant Swarnakar said that archaeologists have also found idols of Ganesha (Mughal period), Gaja Lakshmi (Gupta period) and Lord Vishnu (Rajput period) from the same place.

What is Mahabharata period?
According to this report, in the pre-Mauryan period, India was divided into 16 Mahajanapadas. These Mahajanapadas were associated with Kuru, Panchal and Anga kingdoms, which are related to Pandavas, Draupadi and Karna. In a recent statement, the Ministry of Culture had said that the ongoing excavation in the old fort is being done to find Indraprastha, the ancient capital of the Pandavas.
